Simulacrum Self-Portraiture
In the spring of 2022, I completed the course “Art & Digital Fabrication.” Our first assignment was to make a simulacrum of two small objects using the laser cutter.
The first object is a plane ticket to Saskatoon, Canada, which I designed using Canva. Saskatoon is the largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. My father was born in Saskatchewan, and as a dual citizen of the US and Canada, this connection holds personal resonance. A unique detail is that the flight date mirrors my birthdate.
The second object is very important to me. I started playing hockey when I was eight years old, and I received a puck on October 20th, 2011, after scoring my first goal in a game. The actual puck from that memorable moment rests on my bookshelf at home, and now, with the replica created in this course, I have a piece of that cherished memory in Chicago.
